Square One which was commissioned by D-CAF Downtown Contemporaary Arts Festival in Cairo, Egypt in 2017 will be in this year’s D-CAF 2018 Festival.

The Integrated trio Square One  which was choreographed by Tara Brandel using 3 local Egyptian dancers Nermin Habib, Marihan Samy and  Menatallah Mohamed Azmy, with assistant choreographer Hend El Balouty and music composed by cellist Lea Miklody, will be performed at the Greek Campus in Cairo, and also at the Goethe Institute Cairo as part of Urban Visions. It will also be highlighted as part of the IETM international network for contemporary performing arts (presented by Arab Arts Focus).

Based on conceptual artist Richard Tuttle’s idea that ‘square one is when you get to the point were life and art become one’, and poet Mary Oliver’s idea of the ‘soft animal self’, this site specific performance explores our every day experience of dance, movement and the embodied joy of our soft animal selves.
